Gallium maltolate
A ribonucleotide reductase inhibitor.
General information
Gallium maltolate is a bioavailable coordination compound. It contains trivalent gallium cation. Gallium maltolate was observed to have anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, antineoplastic, analgesic, antiresorptive and antibacterial properties. It is active via ribonucleotide reductase inhibition, which results in impediment of DNA synthesis and cell death in rapidly proliferating cells or bacteria. Gallium maltolate may also interfere with the activity of other enzymes, which could explain its biological properties (NCIt).
