General information

Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are medications that work by binding to and blocking the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. They are prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, and as a post-heart attack medication. Some examples of ARBs include irbesartan, fimasartan, losartan, or candesartan. Continuation or initiation of ARB therapy could potentially aid in survival of COVID-19. On the other hand, stopping these drugs in patients with COVID-19 was associated with a higher probability of mortality (Wallace et al., 2021).
