General information

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) obstruct or restrict the activity of this enzyme, which results in the dilation and relaxation of blood vessels. This leads to a reduction in blood pressure and an enhancement in blood circulation to the heart muscle, thereby boosting the functioning of the heart and kidneys. Some examples of ACEi include lisinopril or captopril. Continuation or initiation of ACEi therapy may potentially aid in survival of COVID-19. On the other hand, discontinuation of these drugs in patients with COVID-19 was associated with a higher likelihood of mortality (Wallace et. al., 2021).
